With 2000+ active Etsy shops and the ability to purchase fun finds on Insta these days, I think it's about time small businesses have some time in the spotlight.
Small businesses are all the rage now and I couldn't be happier. As a bit of a quirkster with a love for funky accessories not found on the Dotti shelves, small businesses are just my cuppa tea. Don't get me wrong, I still get about 85% of my stuff from chains and franchised companies but as time goes on I'm keen on increasing this percentage. Not only does it reduce environmental impact, provide more local jobs, and encourage creativity but ...
I mean... that's enough incentive for me!
TopKnot girl
Run by Nathan & Holly, a NSW duo, TopKnot Girl meets any and every headband need.
As a stereotypical millennial, avocados are pretty much my favourite food so I didn't even hesitate to fork out some cash for this tasty topknot headband. Now I'll never be able to buy a house because of buying too much smashed avo AND printed avo!
Peel the avocado and wear it too (besides when you like dropping avo on your work uniform when trying to eat sushi while driving...too specific?).
Jennifer Moo
I recently met Jennifer at a local weekend market and we got chatting about her jewellery and little business. She not only was super lovely but her products were right up my alley. Also she doesn't use animal products for any of her creations AND donates $1 of all purchases to the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation. Yas gurl!!
I found these monstera leaf earrings and totally loved them even before putting them on! Cute right?
Seeking Hazel
Deanne, the creator behind Seeking Hazel really is killing the clay earring game. Her funky patterns and cuts make for the coolest dangles around. You can probably tell from previous posts that my love of lemons and all things yellow is kind of ludicrous. Anywho, when I stumbled across these beauties, I almost squeaked with excitement. Aren't they the sweetest (except that they're lemons lol)!
Seasonal Design
Speaking of lovely clay things, Seasonal Design, created by Jade on the Sunny Coast is another love of mine. I'm always swooning over the pastel pieces and mad monochromes. How about this lovely B&W necklace that adds plenty of cute to any daytime OOTD.
Eggplant & Poppy
So this local business isn't just Australia, but Cairns local! Eggplant & Poppy is possibly the most adorable gift shop in all of FNQ, maybe even QLD! Found in the Oceana Walk arcade (right near my fav coffee shop in the city), E&P sells everything from punny tea cups to wearable ones (also other non-tea related things but who cares about that stuff amirite?). This lil ring certainly got some comments from my work colleagues but no one was surprised as the tea/quirky jewlz obsessed being I am.
Little Liza Jade
Eliza, based in Brissy, creates the cutest vintage inspired, modest dresses and things for little and big ones. I purchased this custom-made pinafore dress last year and adore it just as much now (also, yeah das me as the model *hair flick*). Not only does the full circle skirt spin in all the right ways but this piece can transform into a skirt (YES I KNOW). dodie (lower case 'd') Clark who?!
Some other small business sweeties
Well friends, make a cuppa and get shoppin' to make these actual humans happy dance the night away.
